The Talbot has always been brimming with history and following the recent £1million refurbishment, encompassing all areas of this historic building, has been transformed into a stylish inn that mixes contemporary and modern. The decor combines details such as exposed brick work and beams with copper accents and lanterns and chandeliers for soft lighting. While the other half of the restaurant features a modern glass conservatory overlooking the garden.
Bespoke hotels are delighted to have executive chef Marin Blunos who has prepared a new look creative menu at affordable prices.
We began with prawns served in an old fashioned pint glass with Marie Rose sauce and deep fried whitebait with tartare sauce, nothing pretentious but really tasty.
For the main course there is a choice of six dishes: we chose to share the Chateaubriand steak, served medium rare, cut with precision and presented expertly on a board alongside the béarnaise and pepper corn sauce, triple cooked chips, tomatoes and field mushrooms. We accompanied the meal with a bottle of full-bodied and smooth Spanish Rioja red wine, Marques de Morano Crianza Tinto. The wine list offers a balanced selection to suit most tastes.
Of course, we couldn’t resist the desserts. ‘The Every Day’s a Sundae’, for example, is a naughty but very nice mix of ice cream, fruit, meringue, granola, whipped cream topped with a sweet pastry stick, was simply delicious and the selection of cheeses served with biscuits was perfect for the non dessert fan. To round it all off there was selection coffee styles and liqueur.
What I liked about The Talbot was that the service was attentive and we were not rushed, allowing us the perfect opportunity to appreciate first class cuisine.
